Planning a trip to Pigeon Forge and craving fresh mountain air, scenic views, and some time on the trails? You’re in luck — Pigeon Forge is nestled right next to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, home to some of the most beautiful (and accessible!) hiking in the country.

Whether you're visiting for a romantic weekend getaway, a family vacation, or just need to stretch your legs after one too many pancake breakfasts on the Parkway — these trails deliver.

Here are our favorite hiking trails near Pigeon Forge for all levels of adventurers:

Distance from Pigeon Forge: 20 minutes

Trail Length: 2.6 miles round trip

Difficulty: Easy

Why We Love It: This paved trail is perfect for beginners, families with kids, or anyone just wanting to chase a waterfall without breaking a sweat. The 80-foot cascading Laurel Falls makes for an epic photo-op (especially in the spring when the mountain laurels are in bloom).

Pro Tip: Go early morning or late afternoon to beat the crowds and catch some magical light.

Distance from Pigeon Forge: 30 minutes

Trail Length: 2.6 miles round trip

Difficulty: Easy to Moderate

Why We Love It: Want to walk behind a waterfall? Grotto Falls is your trail. Shaded and serene, this hike is part of the Trillium Gap Trail and is known for its lush greenery and cool temps — even in the summer.

Fun Fact: It's the only waterfall in the park that you can walk behind!

Distance from Pigeon Forge: 40 minutes

Trail Length: 4.6 miles round trip to the cave

Difficulty: Moderate

Why We Love It: Alum Cave is more than just a cave — it’s a full-on adventure. The trail features arching rock formations, panoramic views, and natural staircases made by tree roots. You can hike just to the cave or continue all the way to Mt. LeConte (but only if you’re up for a real challenge!).

Pro Tip: Pack a snack and enjoy it at the cave bluff — it’s the perfect rest spot.

Distance from Pigeon Forge: 1 hour

Trail Length: 1 mile round trip

Difficulty: Short but steep

Why We Love It: This isn’t a “hike” in the traditional sense, but the views at the top? Unreal. At 6,643 feet, Clingmans Dome is the highest point in the Smokies — and on a clear day, you can see 7 states from the top.

Pro Tip: It’s paved but steep, so take it slow and bring a jacket — even summer days can feel chilly up there.

Distance from Pigeon Forge: 35 minutes

Trail Length: 4 miles round trip

Difficulty: Moderate

Why We Love It: This trail is a springtime favorite. Wildflowers blanket the forest floor, and the peaceful walk includes footbridges, old stone walls, and a charming waterfall at the end. It’s like a walk through time.

Pro Tip: Bring your camera in April — the wildflowers are breathtaking!

Bonus Tip: Download the AllTrails App

Not sure which trail is best for your group or looking for something pet-friendly? Download the AllTrails app — it’s a lifesaver for finding trail maps, reviews, and difficulty levels before you head out.

Final Thoughts

Pigeon Forge is more than just Dollywood and go-karts — it’s your gateway to the Smokies. These trails are close enough for a half-day adventure and scenic enough to remember forever. So lace up your hiking boots (or comfy sneakers) and hit the trails!
